A NEW CHAPTER IN THE HISTORY OF UZBEKISTAN’S SAFFRON INDUSTRY
On October 8 of this year, the opening ceremony of the BMB Za’faron saffron drying and processing facility, along with a demonstration of saffron bulb planting, took place in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region.
The event was attended by representatives from BMB HOLDING, the administrations of Jizzakh region and Bakhmal district, the leadership of “Uzsanoatqurilishbank,” ambassadors of Italy and Tajikistan to our country, foreign partners, media representatives, and delegates from other state and non-state organizations. The attendees were familiarized with the company’s operations and an exhibition of saffron products.
Today, this saffron plantation is considered the largest contiguous plantation not only in our country but also globally, having earned its place with its value and high quality. Additionally, on the initiative of the Holding, the BMB Za’faron brand was created, and currently about 20 saffron-based products are being produced under this brand.
The total cost of the project for expanding, drying, and processing saffron plantations is 120 million euros. Specifically,
– 70 million euros in foreign direct investment;
– 37 million euros of own funds;
– 13 million euros in credit funds.
Over the past period, within the framework of this project, 60.8 million euros of investments have been utilized, and about 120 permanent and 25 thousand seasonal jobs have been created.
Furthermore, as a result of an additional 5 billion soums invested by the project initiator, the laying of concrete pavement on nearly 2.5 km of roads and the installation of 25-30 km of power lines to supply electricity to the population will have not only economic but also social significance for this region.
Moreover, this year, in collaboration with Polish specialists, the application of AgroNanoGel hydrogel product as an innovation in saffron fields has begun. This product will be widely adopted based on the trial results, as it significantly reduces water consumption in saffron and other types of agricultural crops.
In recent years, extensive work has been carried out to implement the reforms initiated by our esteemed President, particularly the directives given during his visits to the Jizzakh region. In the future, these efforts will bear fruit and contribute significantly to the social and economic well-being of our people.
